Today on Mecha Analysis, we look at episode 11 of Chuchumy Space Opera. Something to keep in mind when looking at the mechanical designs of Chuchumy Space Opera: The ones responsible for mechanical design are as follows,
  • Akira Yasuda, known for designing mechs in Turn A Gundam, Code Geass and Overman King Gainer.
  • Kimitoshi Yamane, notable for mechanical designs in G Gundam, Gundam SEED, SEED Destiny, SEED Stargazer, IGLOO, and Eureka Seven: AO
  • Not much can be found about Ippei Gyobu. I think he's new.

Episode 11
I really like the interaction between Mr. Mask and Bellri.
I really like the unnecessary amount of laughing that takes place in this episode.
I really like beautifully animated space-bound battles

This episode was a good one.

G-Self

Two new features on the lead suit are displayed in this episode. Though Bellri seems to have terrible craftsmanship, we see the G-Self is capable of repair work. We also see some sort of light emitting function. Though similar features have been show in previous episodes, this time we see that it is purely for distraction. Nothing more, nothing less. Also, the effect looks like something we might see from the 70s
.

Seriously...the 70s...

Space Jahannam

We are introduced to yet another Amerian grunt suit. Didn't we just get introduced to a few grunts from the Amerian army not too long ago? I guess we can let it slide since one of the pilots happen to be everyone's favorite genius, Klim Nick.

I feel as though this is a downgrade from his previous suit in terms of being a distinct unit in the battle field. He doesn't have the javelins he's so proud of,  and the only thing that really sets him apart is the color of his suit. Hell, even the Hecate looks more distinct than Klim's Jahannam and the pilot barely shows her face (at least not until now)!

In terms of features, we see Klim use a beam rifle and some sort of folding beam axe. Similar to the original Jahannam, the head camera sort of has this ball that rolls around in its housing like an enormous eye. I'd love to see how Bandai makes this if they decide to produce a Master Grade of the Space Jahannam.

Does this mean Klim will forever be the leader of the grunts? Will he get an upgrade later on? Or maybe he'll get the G-Self as a hand-me-down if/when Bellri gets an upgrade. Blue G-Self would be pretty cool!

Mack Knife

Unfortunately for Klim, the Jahannam was overshadowed by a new suit from the Capital Army. Wait, didn't they just roll out the Wuxia? The Regild Century rolls out technology so fast!
...and somehow they're still using Catish.

Like the Elf-Bull, we see all ligaments are weapons, and it transforms into a strange looking flight mode. This model, however, seems to be much more agile than its predecessor.

If I saw it properly, the difference between the grunts and commander types are in the head - the grunts seem to have a single eye whereas the commanders have two eyes. Not sure what the point is in the design difference, but I'll leave that kind of thinking to Akira, Kimitoshi, and Ippei.

Oh yeah, the light signaling should not go unnoticed. That and the signal flares. After thousands of years, these technologies simply will not go away.

Along with the Elf-Bull, I'm not sure what I think about these suit designs. A part of me wants to like them for their unique designs, deviating from the regular Gundam formula, but the other part sees the transformations and just cringes at how dumb it looks. To think the kits for these have already been announced and the Recten, a suit that has been around since episode 1, still has not got a kit. I really wonder what Bandai is thinking...
That's all for Mecha Analysis for the week. I apologize for the delays this week, though it may become a more common trend in the next couple of weeks. The good news is, a package arrived from Morgenroete Munitions. I'll definitely have some more Gunpla related articles in the future! Please stay tuned!
